About this celebration

Overview

Troop 254 is honored to celebrate its 100th year! We are a Chinese-American Boy Scout troop in Seattle with a rich and storied history, an impressive legacy, and a remarkable record of growth and development. As we celebrate this momentous occasion, we will take a moment to contemplate the unwavering fortitude and perseverance of the numerous troop leaders and Boy Scouts who have contributed to our long-standing success. Additionally, we will be commemorating our achievements over the past century and looking forward to the future with an optimistic vision that will guide us towards continued prosperity.

The commemoration of our hundredth anniversary will include a much-anticipated premiere of our thoughtfully produced documentary, a delectable lunch, a joyful gathering of alumni, and an assortment of other engaging activities.
Every guest in attendance will be presented with a complimentary, limited-edition 3" centennial patch that has been exclusively designed by our acclaimed Troop 254 alumnus, Sam Eng.

We are deeply appreciative to extend an invitation to the community to join us in our centennial celebration. This event promises to be a remarkable occasion. You won't want to miss it!

Documentary

Boy Scout Troop 254 is producing a documentary to celebrate its 100 years as a chartered organization here in the Northwest.  Through the stories and memories of its oldest living Scouts, we’ll learn the troop’s impact on not just the boys who were involved, but also greater Seattle, especially the Asian community that brought it to life!

Interviews

Along with our host, Washington Governor Gary Locke, an Eagle Scout and former member of Troop 254 himself, interviewees will include a broad cross section of former scouts going back to the late 40s all the way to the present, as well as a local historian who will give us an overview of the early 20th century Seattle Asian community which was the birthplace of Troop 254 at Chinese Baptist Church.  Using these interviews, archival footage, and photos collected from families, we’ll tell an engaging story of the growth of Troop 254 and the hope and dreams of the boys that made that journey in Scouting and how that spirit continues today!

Film

The 10 minute film, written and directed by local documentary filmmaker Brad Vanderburg (an Eagle Scout himself and proud father of a current Troop 254 Scout), will premiere June 17th as part of the Troop 254 Centennial celebration!
